Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/- Initiative on excluding parliamentary immunity will be included on the parliament’s agenda this week. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the statement today after a working meeting of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM).
The speaker said that the PDM initiative had been approved by the Constitutional Court and was part of the strategy on reforming political class. “It is appropriate to act to amend the Constitution related to excluding immunity of MPs, so we ask colleagues from the parliamentary majority to back this project”, he said.
At the same time, the speaker noted that the public debates to set uninominal voting system would start next week. “Opposition including extra-parliamentary parties will be invited to debates. We will send invitations to experts in election and representatives of civil society, including to those who refused the first invitation. Citizens demand change, and I do not understand why we postpone the issue from year to year and we do not meet election commitments”, Candu said.
Candu pointed out that during 10 days PDM had collected over 350,000 signatures in support of the project on passing to uninominal voting system. The document was registered in the parliament last week.
