Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will switch to summer time on 26 March. The clock will be put forward at 2:00 and this will be the shortest day of the year.
Switching to summertime complies with a proposal of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and will be made simultaneously with the EU member states.
Moldova switched to summer time for the first time in 1979, for optimal use of daylight and saving artificial light. During summer time the sun rises at 4:30 and goes down at 20:00.
At the same time, many experts in medicine and psychology say that switching to summer time may affect the health and mood condition of many people, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.
Almost 70 countries from Europe switch from winter to summer time observing time zone differences, except for Iceland, Belarus and Russia.
