Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip has congratulated Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his counterpart Volodymir Groysman on the progress made in the file on liberalization of visas with the European Union, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The European Parliament on 6 April approved the agreement, according to which the Ukrainian citizens will have right to enter the EU member states without visas.
“I am happy a lot for our Ukrainian neighbours and friends; I experience a moment of joy similar to the one we felt two years ago. This is a real reason for happiness; we should not forget this great benefit of a close relation with the European Union either. The progress means pressing ahead with the reforms and modernization, according to the western model, both in Chisinau and in Kiev,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip said in this context.
The free visa regime for Ukraine was adopted by the European Parliament with 521 votes for, 76 ones against and 36 abstentions, with the mention that this regime should be further approved by the EU Council of Ministers. If the latter says “yes,” it is quite likely that the abolition of the visa regime for the Ukrainian citizens enters into force after 20 June 2017.
