Moldovan foreign minister chairs meeting of national committee for combating trafficking in human beings

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today chaired a meeting of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings. Attending the event were representatives of the central public authorities, international partners and members of competent non-governmental organizations, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
In the context, the head of the Moldovan diplomacy welcomed the election of Moldova’s representatives in the Committee of Parties of the Council of Europe’s Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA).
Also, Andrei Galbur demanded the involvement of all national authorities in charge of giving the final touches in time to the national strategy of prevention and combating of the Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) for 2017-2022 and an action plan for 2017-2019, according to the recommendations contained in the reports of the United States’ Department of State and GRETA. MAEIE will be the institution that will promote the project in the government for examination and approval.
Among the measures already taken by Moldova in the field of combating THB, there are the law on rehabilitation of offences’ victims, which regulates also the financial compensation by the state of the damage caused through the offence, including to THB victims, due to enter into force on 1 January 2018, inauguration of an emergency placement centre for children victims and potential victims of violence, negligence, exploitation and trafficking of children, as well as for carrying out information campaigns, seminars, workshops, etc.
Also, participants in the meeting heard and approved the national report in the sector of combating the trafficking in human beings for 2016, implementation of the national plan for 2014-2016, report on the implementation of the strategy of the national reference system and a report on the crime situation in 2016 as regards the field of combating the trafficking in human beings.
