Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/ - Over 25 settlements from six Moldovan districts remain partially or fully disconnected from power supply in the wake of the last days’ bad weather. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic made statements to this effect at a meeting of the commission for emergency situations today.
According to Calmic, it is about settlements from Cantemir, Taraclia, Leova, Causeni, Anenii Noi, Cahul districts and the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri. “As many as 13,000 clients are disconnected from electric energy supply in all. The settlements where the situation is not serious will be reconnected to electricity supply till today evening. At the same time, the reconnection of all beneficiaries to electricity supply will be possible till next Friday,” Calmic noted.
At the meeting, the head of the Civilian Protection and Emergency Situation Service (SPCSE), Mihail Harabagiu, said that “a more difficult situation remains in the Comrat district, where there were floods and rescuers intervened to pump the water from about one hundred households and basements.”
For his part, the head of the General Police Inspectorate, Alexandru Pinzari, said that, “in the wake of the accumulation of mud in the Bic river, a road nearby the Straseni town remains blocked at present.”
Environment Minister Valeriu Munteanu noted that the “situation as to the lakes from Moldova has normalized; nevertheless, there are problems at a lake in Comrat, where needed measures are currently undertaken to avoid dangers.”
At the same time, Health Minister Ruxanda Glavan specified that “all medical institutions work as normal.”
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the crisis cell set up would work unless all the problems triggered by the bad weather are settled. “The biggest problem stays the connection of settlements to the electric energy supply. At the same time, even if more local and national roads have been de-blocked, there are a lot of trees fallen in yards and on streets, which makes the transport’s movement more difficult; therefore, representatives of the local authorities should be contacted, in order to efficiently organize the works in settlements too. Also, more assessments are carried out in the agricultural sector, after which the people hit will receive assistance,” Pavel Filip said.
According to SPCSE data, almost 700 employees of the Interior Ministry and 250 of the Defence Ministry were involved in works to remove the consequences of the emergency situation today.
