Twenty fifth anniversary of Moldovan-Russian diplomatic relations' establishment marked at Chisinau-based National Library

Chisinau, 25 April /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of more than 300 documents and publications today was inaugurated at the National Library, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Moldova and Russia.

Attending the event were Culture Minister Monica Babuc, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia to Moldova Farit Mukhametshin, representatives of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, Russian Centre of Culture and Science from Moldova, academic community, culture people, etc.    

In her greeting message, Culture Minister Monica Babuc said that she was honoured to participate in such an event at the headquarters of the most important culture institution of Moldova.   

“The relations between our peoples have been lasting for centuries and even if they have been different during years, we have always been united in a creed of the universal culture, which unites the souls of people of different nationalities,” the culture minister said. The official highlighted the fruitful cooperation with the Russian Embassy, stressing the participation of Russian artists in most important cultural events from Moldova, such as the Martisor International Music Festival, Maria Biesu International Opera and Ballet Festival, etc., mutual presence at the Culture Days, as well as cooperation with Russian-speaking writers from Moldova, with the Culture Ministry backing the publication of more book titles of these writers in the last years.       

In his speech, Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin emphasized the important role o the cultural, scientific and educational relations between the two countries, which have “a rich and bright history".  

“First of all, it is about the work of the Russian Centre of Culture and Science, centres of the Russian World Foundation, Slavic University, A.P. Chekhov Russian Drama State Theatre, as well as of the Municipal Youth Drama Theatre  “From Roses’ Street,” museum house A.S. Pushkin. Creation people have an outstanding contribution to the improvement of the relations in the humanitarian sector, among whom the association of Russian writers, association of Russian journalists, comradeship of Russian fine artists. The humanitarian cooperation between the two countries is opportunely and concretely reflected on pages of the Russian-language press from Moldova,” the Russian diplomat said.      

At the event, the National Library’s director, Elena Pintilei, handed to the Embassy of Russia, on behalf of the National Library, the nobility testimony, 25 Years of Partnership. For his part, Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin gave the institution a set of technical equipment, and the Russian Centre of Culture and Science – a set of books. An exhibition of photos, prepared by the aforementioned centre, was inaugurated at the Library as well.      

The diplomatic relations between Moldova and Russia were established on 6 April 1992.
