Chernobyl accident victims commemorated in Chisinau

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/- A memory march was held today in Chisinau to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl accident.

The action was organized by the public association, Chernobyl Union of Moldova.

Participants in the event laid flowers at the monument Stefan cel Mare and made a memory march at the memorial venue of the Chernobyl victims.

According to statistics, 3,500 Moldovan citizens participated in the liquidation of the consequences of Chernobyl nuclear disaster, 1,003 of them died. Most of the survivors are invalids of grades I and II.

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred on 26 April 1986. This is considered as the worst accident in the history of nuclear power.
