Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ – The head of Criuleni district was detained by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) and anti-corruption prosecutors in a file of working duties abuse today. He is suspected of faking tenders in projects funded by EU by favoring economic agents in personal and material interest.
According to the CNA’s public relations service, in the spring of 2015, the Criuleni District Council established the Municipal Enterprise “Edilitate Criuleni” (Efficiency Criuleni) as part of the EU-funded "CBCRurWaste" project to manage the collection, sorting and pressing of Solid Waste from district. As the head of the Council, the suspect would have asked all heads of educational institutions in the administrative unit that the subsequent works be carried out through the municipal company "Edilitate Criuleni".
But, after the tender winner for carrying out the repair services, the municipal company "Edilitate Criuleni" concluded a contract with company "Crioleal-Com" SRL, led by the son of the Council’s head. Previously, the company was owned by the district head himself.
He is also suspected of setting an economic agent for making the repair works on the Cruglic-Ohrincea-Javreni road. Despite the fact that the works were already being carried out, the head of Criuleni district, as the head of the working group and in complicity with the other members, would have appointed a company as the tender winner.
If found guilty, the suspect may face up to six years imprisonment with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions for up to 10 years.
Within the same file, the former head of Criuleni district was detained two weeks ago, who is suspected of taking approximately 1.7 million lei from the European investment projects.
