Chisinau hosts meeting for Moldova-Germany governmental consultations

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ – The meeting for Germany-Moldova governmental consultations was held in Chisinau today, with objectives to determine the collaboration priorities through renewing bilateral commitments, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The meeting was led by Secretary General of the Government, Lilia Palii and Head of the Unit of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and South Caucasus, Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany, Dirk Schattschneider, with the participation of German Ambassador, Ulrike Knotz, and representatives of the public institutions responsible for different cooperation framework segments.
Lilia Palii mentioned the importance of the Moldovan-German partnership, at the opening of the meeting: "I want to take this opportunity to express gratitude to German Government for the continued support given to Moldova in implementing the Agenda of Reforms for the enormous contribution to the European path of our country, as well as for all assistance programs that have contributed and continue to contribute to modernizing the country and raising the citizens’ welfare," said the Secretary General of the Government.
At his part, Dirk Schattschneider said: "Germany supports governmental reforms. We know how much work and how much more work it is necessary to do. Good things were started, a good reform structure has been created that you need to deploy, and we will give you all the support in implementing them."
German Ambassador to Moldova Ulrike Knotz pointed out the sectors of cooperation for development through the light of the Agreement between the government of Moldova and the government of Germany on cooperation for development, signed in Berlin on 10 July 2014. “Both foreign investors and the citizens expect a legal security, an independent justice, a well-shaped administration, with transparent and stable decision-making processes, de-politicized state institutions and a determined fight against corruption and the ambitious reforms will manage to transform Moldova into a better place for its citizens,” the German diplomat said.
The discussions within the consultations were focused on fields of interest for Moldova, aligned with the government’s agenda of reforms, among which:
- Public administration reform;
- Sustainable economic development, especially in terms of attracting investments, including the reform of the vocational education;
- Regional Development, especially projects on water and sewerage, modernizing local public services;
- Justice and anticorruption.
Following the discussions within the governmental consultations, the sides signed a report, thereby notifying about the commitment to continue the bilateral cooperation relations.
The total German assistance to Moldova in 1992 – 2017 has amounted €200 million, through the International Cooperation Agency of Germany and the Credit Institute for Reconstruction (KfW).
