Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Grigore Karamalak is one of the organizers of the attempted assassination of the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc. Prosecutor Vitalie Busuioc made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
According to Busuioc, following the consideration of more evidence and statements made by the suspects detained, decision-makers found out that Karamalak, known as Bulgaru in the underworld, would be one of the persons who ordered the assassination of Vlad Plahotniuc, on grounds that he would have more criminal files in Moldova. “We have proved a close relation between one suspect and Grigore Karamalak. We have video, audio recordings, phone conversations raised within searches,” Busuioc said.
According to the prosecutor, the suspects held no accurate information about the sum they were to receive after a succeeded assassination; yet, it could exceed one million dollars. They were to act based on two plans; the final variant was to be decided depending on the situation on the ground, with both variants involving grenade launchers.
At the same time, the suspect who was to carry out the assassination told law-enforcers that more people close to Grigore Karamalak would have exerted pressure on the latter and his family to fulfill the order as soon as possible. Within the investigation, decision-makers found out that a convicted person, who serves his term in one of the Moldovan penitentiaries, participated in the operation.
Busuioc also informed that a ruling was given on the indicting of Grigore Karamalak.
On 8 April, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that the law-enforcers of Moldova and Ukraine had detained a criminal group which would have intended to commit the assassination of the leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc. According to prosecutors, 17 persons were members of the group, of whom eight were detained in Moldova and another nine in Ukraine. Executors of the assassination were among the suspects detained.
