Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Court of Appeal from Chisinau today admitted the organization of a referendum for the dismissal of Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca.
According to judges’ ruling, an application by the initiative group to collect signatures for holding a local plebiscite on recalling general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca from office was admitted. “The initiative group made up of 460 persons is registered, according to the list annexed. The question will be: Do you back the recalling of general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca from post? The term of 60 days is admitted for the collection of signatures,” the ruling reads.
“We are ready to start the collection of signatures in a quite short period and we are sure that we will be supported by most Chisinau residents,” the head of the faction of the Party of Socialists in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), Ion Ceban, has said.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the spokesman for the Chisinau city hall, Vadim Brinzaniuc said that the institution does not comment on the decision by the Court of Appeal. “We will see the reasoned ruling by the law court; subsequently, we will comment on the decision,” Brinzaniuc said.
The CMC Socialists in last March informed about a new attempt to organize a referendum on the dismissal of Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca.
For his part, Chirtoaca described the Socialists’ intentions as “ideas lacking substance.”
Subsequently, the Buiucani district court of Chisinau in early last April turned down the registration of the initiative group for the collection of signatures on the organization of the local referendum.
