Chisinau, 2 May /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca today announced he had sent a letter to the company responsible for paid parking in the capital, informing about suspension of the contract.
Chirtoaca said that the decision had been taken after considering accusations presented to the employees of the city hall by the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) officers. “I have learned from the ordinance that Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu is accused of signing the contract without the approval of the council. I did not know about it. As regards arranging auctions, it is extremely serious here, and only investigation must decide”, Chirtoaca said.
Chirtoaca also called for initiation of service inquiries on behalf of employees detained by CNA and pointed out that if it was confirmed that the tenders had been rigged, the company responsible for paid parking in Chisinau would not be able to claim damages.
Recently, seven people were detained by CNA and prosecutors in a corruption file aimed at selecting companies that would deal with paid parking in the capital. Among those detained are Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu, Head of the Municipal Urban Transport and Communications Directorate Igor Gamretchi, former municipal councilor, managers of three parking companies and a businessman.
All seven detained people are investigated for exceeding service duties and abuse. If found guilty, they run the risk of up to 10 years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to 15 years.
