National commission for population, housing census for 2014 holds meeting at Moldovan government

Chisinau, 02 May /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip presided the meeting of the National Commission for Population and Housing Census for 2014 (RPL), which approved the RPL results today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The Prime Minister referred to the quality and inefficient mode of the census process, outlining the importance of the statistical data in the state policy development. “The mistakes that were made before, require much better training for the upcoming censuses, moreover that we are in the age of digitization and we have the support of our development partners,” said Pavel Filip.
The RPL results for 12 – 25 May 2014 indicate that there were registered 2,804,801 persons and that the housing census was carried out for the first time. Also, a Post Review was made, which aimed at estimating the coverage level, but also calculating important indicators. The country coverage is estimated up to 91 per cent, according to the survey estimates.
At present, an interactive viewing application of RPL for 2014 data is being developed to give users the ability to generate their own tables by selecting different indicators for people, households and homes.
Another issue discussed at the meeting was to preparations for the Census of Population and Housing and the General Agricultural Census in 2020. The National Statistics Bureau organized an internal working group, in order to initiate training activities, which proposed for 2017 to identify the needs for conducting the following census and to elaborate methodology, draft of the Action Plan for its organization.
