Moldovan government approves new candidacy for top court judge position

Chisinau, 3 May /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the candidacy of Victoria Iftodi, selected by contest, for the office of judge of the Constitutional Court (CC), for a six-year term.
The post became vacant on 14 April, after the expiration of the mandate of CC judge, held by Alexandru Tanase, - one of the two members appointed by the government. The cabinet appointed Tanase as judge of the Constitutional Court for a six-year mandate on 8 April 2011.
Under the legislation in force, the government was obliged to appoint a candidature for the vacant position in a 15-day term. The deadline expires today.
Victoria Iftodi graduated from the Law Faculty of the Moldovan State University. Starting from 2003, she held the office of deputy justice minister and then first deputy justice minister. On 8 July 2004, under a decree by Moldova’s president, Iftodi was appointed as justice minister. Victoria Iftodi held this post till 20 September 2006, when she was recalled from office.
