Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau city hall will repeatedly inform the company, which was to arrange the paid parkings from the Moldovan capital, about the suspension of the contract. Statements to this effect were made today, after Chisinau general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca had received a letter from representatives of EME Parkleitsystem, who said that they would demand compensations worth 200 million euros, if the contract was not observed.

The Chisinau mayor said that she did not know how the contract with the Austro-Hungarian firm had been possible to be signed without the agreement of the Municipal Council, although the law clearly provides for this. Chirtoaca said that he had considered all available materials on this case, including the contract with this company, which sees that the act can me cancelled in the wake of emergency situations, such as the involvement of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA) “I sent a letter to the Austro-Hungarian firm, in which I informed them about the contract’s suspension and I have recently received an answer.  The firm’s representatives consider that the investigation started by CNA regard only their representation in Chisinau. They do not think that what is happening represent force majeure circumstances and say that they might demand compensations amounting to 200 million euros,” Chirtoaca said.

The mayor also said that he would ask the law-enforcement bodies to investigate also the signatories of the contract, including the founders of the firm and that he would appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice to clear up the order of the court rulings.

On 25 April 2017, seven persons, among whom the Chisinau deputy mayor, Nistor Grozavu and the head of the urban transport and ways of communication department, Igor Gamretchi, were detained in a file on the selection of companies which were to deal with the arrangement of paid parkings in the Moldovan capital.
