Chisinau, 04 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) summoned the Russian interim charge d'affaires Elena Kopnina today to draw attention to events taking place in the Transnistrian region, with a direct impact on Moldovan-Russian relations and the process to regulate the Transnistrian conflict, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The MAEIE’s representative reiterated concerns of Chisinau regarding the activities of the Operative Group of the Russian Troops (GOTR) deployed in the Transnistrian region, without the consent of the Moldovan authorities, in particular regarding its intention to participate in the planned events in Tiraspol on 09 May. The Russian side was advised to refrain from such actions, referring to the provisions of the Moldovan-Russian Agreement of 21 July 1992, according to which the Russian troops in the region committed themselves to strict compliance with the principle of neutrality in the relations of the two banks of the Dniester, until they are completely withdrawn from the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
Similarly, the Moldovan authorities expressed perplexity on the recent adoption of the decision on the official use in the Transnistrian region of the Russian Federation flag by Tiraspol "as a symbol of the free choice of the people of Transnistria regarding the accession to the Federation Russian", as well as the decision on the proclamation of "02 March as the day of the beginning of the rejection of the massive aggression of the Republic of Moldova against the Transnistrian Moldovan republic" and "12 June as the day of Russia".
The MAEIE asked the Russian authorities to give their respective appropriate evaluations as this process mediator, taking the above actions as being close to undermine Moldovan-Russian relations and also reduce the trust between the two Dniester’s banks, implicitly the process of negotiations on Transnistrian settlement.
