Moldovan, Turkish premiers attend World Congress of Gagauz people

Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Turkish Premier Binali Yildirim, who is on an official visit to Moldova, attended the fourth World Congress of Gagauz people , held in Comrat. The forum brought together outstanding personalities, politicians, Gagauz businessmen from all over the world, as well as representatives of foreign embassies accredited in Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The main topic of discussion at the congress was focused on identifying ways of economic and cultural development of Gagauzia.

The Moldovan premier expressed gratitude for hospitality and warm reception and reminded of his participation in the second International Investment Forum "Invest Gagauzia". At the same time, Filip remarked the excellent opportunity for the Gagauz people everywhere to visit Gagauzia and to interact with the national culture, traditions and customs of our country, on the occasion of this event.

Filip noted the actions taken by the government to modernize the region. Among the actions due to be carried out are enforcement of program on studying Romanian language, including in preschool institutions, setting strategic development framework of Gagauzia, developing abd rebuilding infrastructure. 

Also, Filip pointed out the support of development partners especially the EU and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency for participating in the region's development, by providing financial and technical assistance. "The development partners are the ones who  help us all the time for good and for the worse, so I would like to mention the EU-funded program started in 2016 - Support for Agriculture and Rural Development in Gagauzia and Taraclia, amounting to 6.5 million euros, which aims to create new jobs and support small and medium enterprises in Gagauzia and Taraclia.

At the end, Filip urged Gagauz people to support the region's modernisation, so backing the central authorities in implementing reforms.

Also, the two premiers visited the Comrat State University. The Turkish premier was awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
