Chisinau, 10 May /MOLDPRES/- The leader of the Democratic Party, Vlad Palhotniuc, today announced he would propose to speed up the implementation of the government reform and the new structure would comprise only nine ministries of the 16 currently existing ones.
Plahotniuc said that although the reform was announced last year, for technical reasons the preparatory stage lasted longer. “We cannot wait for the implementation of this reform, we have commitments towards foreign partners and Moldovan citizens. Today we decided to complete our talks with colleagues of coalition and then to give the government mandate to implement it. Regardless of political costs, we will carry out this reform”, he said.
The PD insists on the exclusion of the practice of political sharing functions and will opt for professionals at the leadership of the merged institutions. “We have decided to stop sharing political positions in the government”, he added.
According to the formula proposed by the Democrats, only nine out of the 16 ministries will remain – the Ministry of Economy and Road Infrastructure, Foreign and European Integration Ministry, Finance Ministry, Interior Ministry, Justice Ministry, Defence Ministry, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
The same document sees decrease in the number of agencies subordinated to the government, and many of the existing ones will be merged into one.
Plahotniuc noted that his party respects the opposition’s views, but final decisions will be taken in the interest of citizens. He did not exclude that protests might be organized against this reform.
