Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ – The representatives of Moldovan Socialists’ Party in Chisinau Municipal Council started today the procedure of collecting signatures for referendum on dismissal of the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.
Socialist councillors began collecting signatures on 11 May in the afternoon by the Central Post Office (CPO), and among the first signatories was the head of state Igor Dodon.
According to the Socialist councillor, Ion Ceban, the initiative group has got 60 days to collect about 70,000 signatures, after which the Central Election Commission (CEC) will have to make a statement on compliance. He specified that 460 people would be involved into that action, and the Mayor's dismissal referendum could have happened in October.
Earlier, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca described the Socialists' proposal on dismissal referendum as “nonsense”.
On 27 April the Court of Appeal accepted the referendum on the dismissal of Chisinau's Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, and the Buiucani sector Court issued the necessary lists of signatures for the procedure initiation, today.
