International company to advise Moldova on reforming energy sector

Chisinau, 12 May /MOLDPRES/- The consulting company Schoenherr Rechtsanwale GmbH will assist the Moldovan authorities in the legal and functional separation of gas transmission and distribution companies. The external partners informed the Moldovan authorities that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) carried out the procurement procedure of the consultant and presented during a meeting with Deputy Economics Minister Vitalie Iurcu a team of experts who will provide the technical assistance.

Assistance will be provided in accordance with the provisions of the agreement signed with EBRD on 19 December 2016. The legal and functional separation of transmission and distribution companies in gas sector is a commitment made in the action plan on energy reform.

The Economics Ministry will coordinate and facilitate the development of activities seen in the technical cooperation project – “Reviewing and strengthening the legislative and regulatory framework allowing legal and functional separation in the gas sector”, as well as establishing the corporate governance framework for gas companies, Iurcu said.

Schonherr Rechtsanwalte GmbH is an important international law firm. Legal and corporate governance experts from the offices in Vienna, Bucharest and Chisinau, as well as prominent experts in foreign policy and corporate governance will assist the Economics Ministry and other state authorities by reviewing the legislation and the regulatory framework in gas sector in Moldova. With their support, a detailed regulatory framework for corporate governance will be worked out in line with OECD principles and practices to be implemented within companies in the sector.
