Former Moldovan foreign affairs minister to hold office at UN

Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/ -A former Moldovan foreign affairs minister, Natalia Gherman, on 15 September evening was appointed as Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA). The decision was announced by United Nations Secretary General Antonio Geterres on its official webpage.
According to the source quoted, Gherman will take over the mandate held by Petko Draganov from Bulgaria.
During 2013-2016, Natalia Gherman held the position of Moldova’s foreign affairs and European integration minister. Concomitantly, she held the post of deputy prime minister and, provisionally, the one of acting prime minister in 2015. In 2009-2013, Natalia Gherman was deputy minister at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry and participated, as chief negotiator on behalf of Moldova, in the preparation of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
In the beginning of her career, Natalia Gherman held the office of ambassador to Austria and resident representative at the Vienna-based United Nations Agencies and at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Also, she was the first ambassador of Moldova to Sweden, Norway and Finland.
