Rescue teams from six countries participate in large-scale exercise in Chisinau

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/- Rescue teams from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova participate in the EUMOLDEX 2017 exercise held in Chisinau on 18-21 September.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Tutu said that the applications are organized by the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations of the Interior Ministry jointly with the Disaster Reduction Program (PPRD East 2).
“Tomorrow the rescuers of extrication and decontamination teams, firefighters will participate in the liquidation of the consequences of a road accident staged near Durlesti. Police and emergency doctors will be involved in the exercise. Also, at Ialoveni hospital a fire will be simulated in which the rescue, cynologist and climbing teams will have to evacuate patients stuck in the institution. In these applications which will involve teams from partner countries the international cooperation capacity will be tested”, Tutu said.
All applications under EUMOLDEX 2017 exercise will be conducted in conditions close to real ones, and the participating teams will live in camp conditions during the actions. Rescuers will face major disasters such as: floods, earthquakes, accidents and fires. The teams will work together and will strengthen communication and decision-making capabilities in major crisis situations. Their intervention will be monitored by a group of observers aiming at appreciating the cooperation of the states.
During the exercise, representatives from 27 states of the world will be in Moldova. The latest large-scale applications deployed in Moldova in managing emergencies occurred in 2011, when 32 countries participated.
