Moldovan deputy foreign minister attends launching of Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade

Chisinau, 19 September /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Lilian Darii, participated on 18 September 2017, in New York, at the High-level event to launch Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade, organized by the European Union (EU) on the margins of the High-level segment of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. The event gathered the EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and over 50 representatives from the UN member states.
The initiative is a joint effort of the EU, Argentina and Mongolia and aims to end the trade in goods used for capital punishment and torture. The countries that become members of the Alliance agree to take measures to control and restrict exports of these goods, to equip customs authorities with appropriate tools, the Alliance setting up a platform to monitor trade flows and exchange information.
Deputy Minister Darii signed the Political Declaration on the launching of the Global Alliance for Torture-Free Trade.
