Chisinau, 19 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Romanian Energy Ministry today issued an authorization on the construction of gas transportation pipelines on the route Onesti-Gherasti and Gherasti-Letcani. The two pipelines, with a total length of 169 km, are to be connected to the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni, according to a press release by the communication department of the Romanian Energy Ministry.
The effective construction of the two pipelines is estimated to start in 2018 and the putting into operation is scheduled for 2019, the Energy Ministry has informed. The project’s costs are estimated at 131.7 million euros.
“The development of the infrastructure of natural gas transportation in the north-eastern region of Romania (in the countries of Bacau, Neamt and Iasi) will improve the supply with gas of the consumers from the region and will ensure the capacity of transport towards Moldova,” the Romanian ministry said. By the carrying out this project, the present pipelines are completed, in order to enhance the capacity of transportation of gas, especially on the winter period.
“The carrying out of this project will create the pre-requisites for a new sales market of gas to Moldova, at a flow capacity of 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas per year. At the same time, the new pipelines will be able to ensure a pressure compatible to the gas system from Moldova, so that a pressure of 38 bar will be ensured at the border,” Romanian Energy Minister Toma Petcu said.
The Moldovan Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) on 1 September said that it had issued to the state enterprise Vestmoldtransgaz the urbanism certificate for the designing of the works for the construction of the gas transportation pipeline on the direction Ungheni - Chisinau. The works for its construction are to be finished in 2019.
According to MEI, the connection of the gas transportation systems from Romania and Moldova will be completed simultaneously with the putting into operation of the Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank provide loans worth 41 million euros each and the European Union – a grant of ten million euros.
