Moldovan PM meets Turkish president

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - The developments of the Moldovan-Turkish relations and prospects for the development of the bilateral cooperation have been discussed at a meeting between prime Minister Pavel Filip and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The meeting took place in the context of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
During the discussions, the officials appreciated the good dialogue between the two states, which was confirmed also by the high-level visits. In the context, the prime minister thanked President Erdoğan for the assistance provided to Moldova in priority sectors, such as the ones of health, environment and education, through projects implemented in Moldova by the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency. In particular, the prime minister highlighted the carrying out of projects which contribute to the modernization of the infrastructure and enhancing the well-being of the residents from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Filip specified that this region represented “a linking and friendship bridge” between Moldova and Turkey.
The sides also emphasized the boosting of the economic ties and bilateral trade exchanges, speaking out for their further development. In this respect, the officials underlined the importance of the free trade agreement between Moldova and Turkey, as well as the opportuneness of continuing discussions on the platform of the Moldovan-Turkish inter-governmental joint commission for commercial and economic cooperation.
At the same time, the officials expressed willingness of signing strategic documents, which will contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations, among which: the Joint Declaration on the Creation of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the bilateral agreement on the movement of both states’ citizens based on identity cards.
