Moldova participates in events on reform of peacekeeping operations, eliminating violence against women

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii on 20 September participated in events on the reform of the United Nations peacekeeping operations and elimination of violence against women and girls. The events took place on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
The participants in the enlarged meeting of the UN Security Council, in which over 70 UN member states took part, brought for discussion aspects on the need to optimize the UN’s peacekeeping mechanisms, in order to adapt to the modern realities in the field of preventing conflicts and maintaining peace.
At the high-level meeting, hosted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, a joint initiative of EU and UN on elimination of violence against women and girls was launched.
