New draft audiovisual code of Moldova to be submitted to Venice Commission for expertise

Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - The draft of the new Audiovisual Code, after being elaborated and unveiled by a working group, will be subjected to public discussions and submitted to the Venice Commission for expertise. Statements to this effect were made at a today’s meeting of the group for improving the mass media legislation, chaired by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
“We committed to adopt the documents worked out by the group for improving the mass media legislation,” Andrian Candu said.
The participants in the meeting, discussed activities carried out by those eight topic-related working groups. They informed that the draft documents were given final touches and extension of the deadline for implementation was demanded for certain drafts.
The working group for improving the mass media legislation represents a communication platform and a mechanism of permanent cooperation between the parliament and mass media institutions’ representatives, international institutions and media NGOs. The group was set up in June 2017, at an initiative by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, with the support of the European Union’s and Council of Europe’s Joint Project, Promoting Media Freedom and Pluralism in Moldova. The technical assistance is provided to the Group members by Freedom House, Internews, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, U.S. Embassy in Moldova.
