Amended law on electronic communications published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ – The amended law on electronic communications was published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova today.
The document establishes the general framework of the development policy and strategy of electronic communications sector in Moldova, the state rights and duties, physical persons and legal bodies in the process of creating, managing, operating and using the networks of public electronic communications.
The new changes aim to promote the efficient management and use of radio spectrum resources in order to provide users with quality, modern and useful electronic communications services at reasonable prices. Simultaneously, they have an objective to implement new generation technologies and services, including ensuring the integrity and security of public electronic communications networks and services.
As such, the law was complemented by a new chapter on protection of confidentiality in the electronic communications sector, leading to an increase in protection of the citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms, especially right to privacy and respect for privacy in the field of processing personal data.
The completions are part of the National Action Plan (PNA) on implementation of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU, which ensures the harmonization of the national legislation with the European Union Directives and the European quality standards.
According to project initiators, adoption of a law harmonized with EU directives becomes the most effective way to promote competition within e – communications market, stimulate investment in the development of public e – communications networks and services and provide all citizens of Moldova with quality services at fair charges.
