Over 105,000 Chisinau residents vote at referendum till 19:00

Chisinau, 19 November /MOLDPRES/ - Almost 17 per cent of the Chisinau residents voted till 19:00, which is more than 105,000 voters. The deputy head of the Chisinau electoral district council, Vitalie Miron, made statements to this effect at a news briefing today.
According to Miron, more women cast their votes (55.75 per cent) then men (44.25 per cent). ‘’Over 4,700 voters are persons aged between 18 and 25 years, 19,199 have ages between 26 and 40 years, 24,617 people – between 41 and 55 years and 40,503 have ages between 56 and 70 years and 16,188 people are older than 70. Most electors are from the Botanica district of the Moldovan capital, followed by voters from the Rascani, Centru, Buiucani and Ciocana districts. In suburbs, the lowest voter turnout is recorded in the Cruzesti settlement – 0.89 per cent, the highest one – in Sangera – 32.86 per cent,’’ Miron noted.
Also, the deputy head of the Chisinau district electoral council said that ‘’till present, the District Electoral Council has not registered any contestation and other infringements of the voting process have not been noticed.’’
At the same time, the Promo-LEX association today informed that observers had found out certain infringements at the local referendum, among which: unjustified group voting, deficiencies in the work of the SIAS Alegeri (Automated Information System Elections), deficiencies in the electoral lists, unclear things concerning the understanding of the content of the question, involvement of observers on behalf of the participants in the referendum in the electoral process, etc.
The polling stations were opened at 7:00 and will close at 21:00. More than 160,000 votes are needed for Dorin Chirtoaca to be dismissed from office by referendum. At the same time, for the referendum to be validated, not less than one third of those more than 647,000 voters recorded in lists should participate in it.
Elections of the mayors of the towns of Sangera (Chisinau municipality), villages of Berlinti (northern Briceni district), Zarnesti (southern Cahul district), Plopi (southern Cantemir district), Stefanesti (northern Floresti district), Lapusna (central Hancesti district), Sarateni (southern Leova district), Ghiliceni (central Telenesti district), Fundurii Noi (northern Glodeni district) and Capriana (central Straseni district) took place today too.
