Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldovan and Romanian parliaments to convene in Bucharest

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/- The meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldovan and Romanian parliaments will take place in Bucharest on 20-21 November 2017. The 6th meeting of the commission will be hosted by the Romanian parliament, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Attending the event will be co-heads of the commission George Mocanu and Bogdan-Ionel Rodeanu, President of the special commission for preparing Romania for the European Union Council Presidency Ana Birchall, Presidential Adviser for European Affairs Leonard Orban, MPs and senators.
On the first day of the meeting, 3 joint panel meetings will be held between MPs of the Moldovan parliament standing committees and their counterparts from the committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of Romania. The agenda of the panel economy included issues such as: interconnection of gas networks, electricity, road, rail and air transport between Moldova and Romania, exchange of experience in harmonizing national legislation with the European one, Moldova’s participation together with Romania in cross-border and transnational projects.
In terms of foreign policy and security, the participants will discuss issues aimed at Moldova’s efforts to align with the EU acquis, transfer of expertise in cyber security, fight against organized crime and terrorism, exchange of experience in judicial reform for an independent, efficient and transparent judicial system, fight against corruption, cooperation between judiciary councils of Moldova and Romania, training magistrates in the country.
Third panel discussions – education, culture and human resources – will focus on new projects in education, including scholarships, fellowships, internships, visits to exchange experience, transfer of best practices in areas such as: protection of children and disabled people, combating discrimination etc.
“New projects and initiatives will be launched following the discussions within the joint commission, which will mean stronger support provided to Moldova in the European integration path. We would like the joint efforts to encourage a new stage in the rapprochement of the country with the EU”, chairman of the Moldovan parliamentary committee George Mocanu said.
On the second day of the meeting, after the completion of the debates, a declaration of the 6th meeting of the joint commission for European integration will be signed between the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments, which will highlight the priorities in the subsequent Moldovan-Romanian cooperation.
The Moldovan parliament will be represented by MPs George Mocanu, Mihaela Spătaru, Roman Boțan, Ion Balan, Marcel Răducan, Alina Zotea and Igor Vremea.
The meeting takes place on the eve of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels on 24 November, as well as in the context of setting common priorities for the period in which Romania will hold the Presidency of the EU Council in early 2019.
The last meeting of the Joint Commission for European Integration between Moldovan and Romanian parliaments took place in Chisinau on 21-22 June 2016.
