Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - Vehicles with a capacity of up to ten tons will be able to cross a road bridge across the Dniester river, placed nearby the settlements Gura Bacului and Bacioc. The joint group of experts in the sector of transports and road infrastructure took a decision to this effect at a meeting today.
According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, the participants in the meeting ruled that the restriction on the weight of vehicles of more than 3.5 tons will be extended to up to ten tons. In this way, the distance covered by inter-district routes of passenger and goods transports was shortened by almost 50 km, thus providing direct access to settlements from the left bank of Dniester.
The decision to extend the restriction imposed on vehicles with a weight of more than 3.5 tons was taken in order to ease the transport of passengers and goods and facilitate the connection between the two banks of Dniester. Also today, the concerned road signs were set.
The bridge across the Dniester river nearby the settlements Gura Bacului and Bacioc was reopened on 20 November 2017. The bridge was damaged in 1992 and rebuilt in 2001, with support of European partners. The cost of the repair works stood at about 30 million lei. The bridge is part of the M-5 international road, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) and provides the shortest connection between Iasi and Odessa. Being a highway, this road crosses no settlement, which allows easing the road traffic.
