Border crossing procedures to be optimized at two Moldovan-Ukrainian customs checkpoints

Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - The border crossing procedures will be optimized at two Moldovan-Ukrainian customs checkpoints, under a project titled, Strengthening of Integrated Management along Moldovan-Ukrainian Border, launched at a news conference today.
The project will be implemented by the International Organization for Migration and official missions from Moldova and Ukraine. Within the project, the infrastructure and the headquarters of the border checkpoints, the information exchange systems will be improved and the procedures of crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border at Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk and Reni-Giurgiulesti will be optimized. The flow at these two border crossing points annually reaches about three million persons and approximately 810,000 vehicles. At the same time, the project sees creation of a joint contact point at Palanca.
At the launch event, Border Police Head Fredolin Lecari said that the present project was extremely important. “We thank the European Union for the support provided. This project is extremely useful for Moldova; therefore, we will efficiently contribute and will provide every needed support for its implementation,” Lecari said.
For his part, Director General of the Customs Service Vitalie Vrabie noted that the project provided for the development of infrastructure at two checkpoints, in order to carry out the joint control. “This will allow carrying out a quicker, more efficient control and with lower costs. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2018,” Vrabie said.
The project’s specific goals were identified by the European Commission as priorities which must be tackled within making operational the bilateral Agreements and Protocols for borders’ management, in force between Ukraine and Moldova.
The project is financed by the European Union with a budget of 4.7 million euros and 1.6 million euros on behalf of the Moldovan government.
