Moldovan Foreign affairs minister says Moldova's European orientation stays fundamental priority goal

Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi today pays a visit to Bucharest, at an invitation by Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Teodor Melescanu, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
At a meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Tudor Ulianovschi offered thanks for the invitation to visit Romania, noting that the visit perfectly fit into the logic of the excellent relations between Moldova and Romania, in general, and between the two foreign ministries, in particular. The Moldovan minister referred to the Strategic Partnership for European Integration, signed between the two states, which represented an essential benchmark of Moldova’s foreign policy and an advanced mechanism of strengthening the ties in sectors of major interest. The document is defining for achieving Moldova’s European integration goals, as well as for boosting the high-level bilateral dialogue. Tudor Ulianovschi specified that the Moldovan government highly appreciated the mechanism established of the joint meetings of the governments and voiced willingness of the Moldovan side to organize the next meeting in Moldova in the near future, depending on possibilities of both prime ministers’ agenda.
Tudor Ulianovschi thanked the Romanian authorities for the multilateral assistance provided to Moldova, including for the solid financial assistance offered.
At the meeting, the two officials paid special attention to EU-related topics, including: fulfilling the commitments taken within the Moldova-EU Association Agreement; developments of the Eastern Partnership; implementation of the justice reforms and fighting corruption; the next Presidency of the EU Council, Romania is to take over in 2019.
The two ministers also discussed the developments in the Transnistrian file, aspects of the regional security, other subjects of mutual interest.
Teodor Melescanu welcomed the visit to Bucharest by the Moldovan diplomacy head. He said that Moldova remained a foremost priority in Romania’s domestic and foreign policy, no matter the political colour of the governments at rule. Romania will further back Moldova’s European integration, reforms’ implementation, actions to modernize and optimize the work of public institutions, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Within press statements made following the meeting, the two ministers voiced satisfaction with the content of the discussions and joint approaches on more issues of principle concerning the bilateral relations, as well as topical subjects on the regional and international agenda. In particular, the Moldovan diplomacy head stressed: “I want to convey a clear and univocal message on behalf of the Moldovan government: Moldova’s European orientation remains a fundamental priority, unchangeable objective of our domestic and foreign policy, as it expresses as good as possible the society’s aspirations and the values it shares.”
Tudor Ulianovschi invited Teodor Melescanu to visit Moldova on the next period. The invitation was accepted with pleasure, with the date due to be subsequently specified through diplomatic means.
Today, Tudor Ulianovschi will also have meetings with Deputy Prime Minister for Implementing Romania's Strategic Partnerships Ana Birchall and Presidential Adviser with the Foreign Policy Department Bogdan Aurescu. Also, at the headquarters of Moldova’s Embassy in Romania, the Moldovan foreign affairs minister will meet the Bucharest-based ambassadors of the EU member states accredited for Moldova.
