Moldova's Intelligence and Security Service pays homage to participants in Afghanistan war

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - The leadership of the Intelligence and Security Service of Moldova (SIS), along with other officials, today participated in a ceremony on commemorating the people dead in the Afghanistan war.
The event started with laying of flowers at the monument to Ruler Stefan cel Mare and continued with a march of memory to the memorial venue ”Feciorilor Patriei - Sfântă Amintire (Holy Memory to Sons of Motherland), the SIS communication and public relations centre has reported.
Officials, command staff servicemen, war veterans and their family members participated in a solemn meeting. Participants in the meeting gave more speeches and stood silent for a minute in the memory of those who fell in military operations in Afghanistan.
The withdrawal of the limited contingent of troops from Afghanistan started twenty nine years ago on 15 February. About 12,000 Moldovans participated in this war, which lasted ten years, from 1979 till 1989, of whom 301 died on battlefield and 700 were wounded.
