Moldovan deputy premier attends event on commemorating Afghanistan war victims

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic today participated in an event dedicated to the commemoration of the Afghanistan war victims. Attending the event were also Deputy Parliament Speaker Vladimir Vitiuc, Defence Minister Eugen Sturza, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan, as well as representatives of central and local public authorities, diplomats, servicemen, former fighters and their relatives, the Reintegration Polices Bureau has reported.
At the event, held at the memorial venue ”Feciorilor Patriei - Sfântă Amintire (Holy Memory to Sons of Motherland), Cristina Lesnic laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument and stood silent for a minute for all victims of the Afghanistan war, as the withdrawal of the contingent of troops from this country started on 15 February 29 years ago.
In her speech, the deputy prime minister thanked the former fighters for the sacrifices they proved. Lesnic wished them good health, prosperity and only peaceful days for their families. The official highlighted the importance of keeping peace in the world. She said that this war was “a lesson learned by everybody,” stressing, at the same time, the huge human losses Moldova suffered in the wake of this conflict.
