Moldovan PM, OSCE Secretary General discuss possibilities of advancement in Transnistrian problem settlement

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and OSCE Secretary General, Ambassador Thomas Greminger today tackled possibilities of advancement in the Transnistrian file and consolidating OSCE’s mandate in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

At the meeting, the prime minister stressed that OSCE, in its capacity of mediator, was a key partner for Moldova in the settlement of the Transnistrian problem. The PM reiterated Moldova’s firm commitment to turn to account the progress made on the Transnistrian dimension, through the implementation of the protocols signed in December 2017 in the sectors of education, telecommunications, agriculture, as well as of other goals contained in the protocol decisions adopted in Berlin (2016) and Vienna (2017).    

Pavel Filip said that Moldova would further speak out for establishing a special legal status for the Transnistrian region, by the observance of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Also, priority attention is paid to the withdrawal of the Russian troops and ammunitions deployed on the left bank of Dniester, with the OSCE’s support being essential to this end.   

For his part, Ambassador Thomas Greminger assured of every support for the promotion of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. He welcomed the constructive involvement in the settlement of all problems, for the benefit of the citizens from both banks of Dniester.   

In another context, Prime Minister Pavel Filip appreciated the assistance and expertise provided by OSCE in the field of human rights, rule of law state and civil society. In particular, the PM emphasized the importance of interaction with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, in the context of the polls due in Moldova in next autumn.
