Moldovan deputy premier meets Romanian foreign affairs minister

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca, on a 19-21 February working visit to Bucharest, has had a meeting with Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu. The officials tackled priority aspects on the Moldova-Romania bilateral cooperation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Stressing the irreversible character of Moldova’s European option, Iurie Leanca said that the European integration of Moldova was made “with and through Romania.” In the context, the deputy prime minister thanked the Romanian cabinet for the multilateral support provided to Moldova, which has a direct positive impact on citizens’ living. The sides made a review of the principal projects underway and spoke out for pressing ahead with their implementation in the terms assumed. Special attention was paid to energy projects, the carrying out of which will ensure Moldova’s greater independence in this sector.
At the meeting, the officials shared the idea that a forthcoming visit to Chisinau by Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila would give an impetus to the relations between the two states through a pragmatic and concrete approaching of the bilateral dialogue’s quality. Iurie Leanca and Teodor Melescanu referred also to the enforcement of mechanisms of cooperation between Moldova and Romania in the fields of trade, economy, social and cultural sectors, with a special role due to be played by the joint meetings of the Moldovan and Romanian cabinets. Teodor Melescanu informed his interlocutor about the actions undertaken by Romania to back Moldova on the foreign stage, including the preparation of the European Action Group for Moldova, due to be summoned in late February.
The sides also exchanged opinions on the use of the non-assimilated so far part of a non-refundable loan of 100 million euros, provided by Romania.
Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca also had a meeting with Minister Delegate for European Affairs of Romania Victor Negrescu, with whom he discussed priority subjects on the European agenda. The sides debated possibilities of improving the quality of communication between Chisinau and Bucharest, as well as on the Moldova-European Union dimension. A better communication based on concrete results achieved by Moldova in promoting reforms will contribute to the change of the country’s perception within the European institutions.
The officials agreed on a visit to Chisinau by Victor Negrescu in the near period. On this occasion, the sides will re-launch also the mechanism of bilateral consultations in terms of European integration at the level of inter-governmental commission.
