Honorary consulate of Moldova inaugurated in Munich

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - The inauguration of an honorary consulate of Moldova in the Free State of Bavaria took place in Munich, Germany, on 19 February, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
Attending the event were about 200 guests, including Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, representatives of the Bavarian government and parliament, Ambassador of Moldova to Germany Oleg Serebrian, Munich mayor Joseph Schmid, representatives of the consular corps, journalists, business people.
Minister President of Bavaria Horst Seehofer, in his message addressed on the occasion of the inauguration of the new consulate, stressed its importance for boosting the economic and cultural relations between Moldova and the Free State of Bavaria.
For his part, the Moldovan foreign affairs minister evoked the special role and place of Germany in the present world. In the context, Ulianovschi noted the existence of an unexplored potential in the ties between Moldova and Germany, including Bavaria - one of the most dynamic and prosperous European regions. “From the geographical viewpoint, Bavaria is the closest German federal land to Moldova. The inauguration of the new consulate will create friendly conditions, so that this proximity is not only geographical,” the Moldovan minister said.
Moldova’s honorary consulate in Munich is the 123rd consular representation in the Bavarian capital. At the same time, it is the third honorary consulate of Moldova in Germany, along with the ones from Hamburg and Stuttgart. A German businessman, Michael Fischbaum, is the honorary consul of Moldova in the Free State of Bavaria.
