Moldovan authorities conclude new agreement with WHO

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Svetlana Cebotari signed a new biennial agreement with the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The document was signed on 20 February 2018 in Podgorica (Montenegro).

The new agreement is focused on the implementation of the agenda of the European Health Strategy 2020 and is aligned with the 12th WHO general work program for 2014-2019, which aims to facilitate policy dialogue on national health strategies and policies meant to improve public health and health services, to provide technical assistance according to the WHO’s knowledge and expertise at national, regional and global level, and to strengthen the governance process in the field of health and intersectoral collaboration.

Under the new document, the WHO will provide technical assistance to Moldova in the following areas: treatment of infectious and noninfectious diseases, promotion of health, consolidation of health system, including the provision of integrated services, access to medicines and the health information system.

Cebotari said that the new agreement will help improve the health system in the country.

“All these years, the WHO Office in Moldova was with us and promptly responded to our country’s requests to support policy for a sustainable health system development and to improve the health of the population. We have the same goals and I am sure we will be able to achieve positive results in these areas so that citizens feel safe and have access to high quality medical services”, Cebotari said.

The cooperation between the World Health Organisation and the Republic of Moldova is regulated by the Basic Agreement between the Moldovan government and the WHO Regional Office for Europe on 21 July 1994, WHO being one of the main international partners supporting the national health system.
