Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - The provision on blood group will be excluded from the identity papers. The parliament adopted a draft law on the amendment and completion of the law on the identity papers from the national passports system in the first reading today.

The legislative initiative was put forward by a group of lawmakers and provides for the exclusion of the stipulation on blood group from the identity card, passport, diplomatic passport and service passport.

Another change regards the extension of the validity term of the passport of Moldova’s citizen from seven to ten years for the persons older than 16 years. Also, draft sees issuance of the electronic identity card with digital signature and public key certificates. The ID’s validity term will be ten years.

According to an MP of the Democratic Party (PDM), Valentina Stratan, the information of the blood group in the identity card is not relevant, as no physician makes transfusions unless he/she checks, as these indexes change during the life.

To become law, the draft is to be passed in the second reading and the new norms will enter into force six months after their publication in the Official Journal of Moldova (Monitorul Oficial).
