Veterans to have new-type identity cards in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ – Commencing 01 April 2018, veterans from Moldova will receive new ID cards, according to a draft approved by the Cabinet of Ministers today. Thus, it will be possible to reevaluate the number of citizens who participated in various wars and armed conflicts, as well as increase degree of safety of the act that confirms the veteran status, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The change of old with new ID cards will be done in stages from 01 April 2018 to 31 December 2020, during which period of time both types of documents will be valid. There will be issued new ID cards for 15,000 veterans in 2018, in 2019 – 15,000 and in 2020 for 10,000 veterans. Consequently, there will be valid only new model of veteran ID cards from 2021.
The new ID cards will be issued and made by the public services agency (ASP). For 2018, it was planned the amount of MDL 525 thousand in the budget for it.
At present, the Ministry of Defence records about 40,000 participants in armed conflicts and military actions, which are war veterans.
