Moldovan cabinet approves new measures to fight violence against women, domestic violence

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a national strategy of prevention and combating violence against women and the domestic violence for 2018-2023 and an action plan for its implementation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported. 

The document provides for the promotion of zero tolerance towards all forms of violence, informing the public about the seriousness of this phenomenon, improving the legislation in line with the international standards, as well as the development of a range of specialized services for victims of the domestic violence. 

In this respect, decision-makers will ensure the functionality of the free phone assistance service for victims of the domestic violence and violence against women; will facilitate the employment of casualties of the violence and will develop services of counseling at the Mental Health Community Centres.   

Also, among the principal actions, there are: periodical organization of courses on the prevention and fighting violence for mayors, working out an inter-sectoral mechanism of intervention in violence cases and ensuring access to justice for violence victims.
