Moldovan weather forecasters announce Yellow Code of cold

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has announced a Yellow Code of sharp weather change for the period 25 February – 2 March. At the same time, a Yellow Code of intensification of ice formation is valid till 3 March.
According to meteorologists, on the concerned period, the air temperatures will decrease significantly as a result of the penetration of a cold Arctic air. Thus, at night, the air temperatures will drop to -10 - -15 Celsius degrees and on 26 February – 1 March, the air temperatures will decrease to -15 - -18 degrees.
SHS specialists said that, on these days, the average air temperature was to be by 10-12 degrees lower than the climatic norms in Moldova.
Also, given the expected cooling of the weather, on 23 February – 3 March, the process of formation of ice and ice bridges is forecast to be fostered in Moldova’s rivers and water basins.
In the context of the latest weather forecasts, rescuers warn about the fact that the ice will be thin in places and stepping on in may be dangerous. Residents, especially fishers and parents of minors are asked to be cautious and avoid any activity on the ice of water basins.
At the same time, drivers, especially the ones moving on long distances, should make sure that their vehicles were technically checked, cisterns are full and they should have thick clothes, water and food reserves, a shovel, chains for wheels in boots, charged cell-phones, etc.
