EU encourages Moldova in advancing reforms

Chisinau, 26 February /MOLDPRES/- Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi today participated in the 12th meeting of the Group for European Action of Moldova “Friends of Moldova”, in Brussels, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media relations service has reported.
Ulianovschi informed his European counterparts on the main developments in the priority areas of reform, in particular justice, fighting corruption, media, strengthening the financial and banking sector. He thanked for the EU assistance and informed about the latest developments in the fulfillment of conditions related to macro-financial assistance. Also, he referred to the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, stressing the importance of continuing the positive dynamics in solving the issues on the agenda of negotiations.
Foreign affairs ministers of the European Union member states, representatives of European institutions underlined the usefulness of the exchange of views with the Moldovan foreign minister on the eve of the talks dedicated to Moldova due today at the EU Foreign Affairs Council. The EU representatives have expressed encouraging messages for further reforms under the Association Agreement, noting the areas of justice, fighting corruption, banking fraud investigation. The positive contribution of Moldova to the Eastern Partnership was approached. The importance of organizing free and fair elections by respecting international electoral standards was also highlighted.
At the end of the meeting, Ulianovschi called on EU member states to be actively committed to supporting Moldova through strategic communication, high-level political dialogue, projects and assistance in implementing the agreement.
The event represents an important format of the political dialogue Moldova – EU member states, co-organized by Romania and France, at the level of foreign ministers and senior officials of the EU member states. The previous meeting took place in April 2017.
