Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Romania’s Prime Minister Viorica Dancila today reconfirmed the desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Filip appreciated the visit by Romanian counterpart, given that this is the second one paid abroad by Dancila, after the one in Brussels. “Romania has been and remains a strategic partner and a consistent supporter of pro-European reforms undertaken by the Moldovan government”, Filip said.

The Romanian premier noted that the relationship between Moldova and Romania is a special one. “The development of our relations is a major priority of the Romanian government and the strategic goal is Moldova’s European integration,” Dancila said.

The officials have reviewed the ongoing projects and identified initiatives to advance bilateral cooperation and European agenda. Thus, Romania remains the main trade partner of our country, the bilateral trade exceeded 1.3 billion dollars last year. At the same time, most foreign enterprises operating in Moldova have Romanian capital. In this context, Filip welcomed the arrival of Transilvania bank on the Moldovan market.

The dialogue also focused on the bridge construction projects. Filip appreciated the construction of Ungheni bridge as a national project of Romania.

Filip reminded the successful projects made in our country with the financial support of Romania, among them: repairing kindergartens, equipping schools with means of transport, offering scholarships and renovation of the Organ Hall and National Art Museum of Moldova. “We remain consistent with our principle – investments of Romania, whether we are talking about education, health, culture, energy, agriculture, banks, are for all Moldovan citizens, because the focus of all policies must be citizen”, Dancila said.

Filip also approached the importance of joint meetings between the Moldovan and Romanian governments for further development of bilateral relations. He announced the organization of a new meeting between the two governments in Chisinau.
