High level interparliamentary Conference in Chisinau to discuss issues of common security

Chisinau, 27 February /MOLDPRES/ – The high – level officials and experts at the first high – level Interparliamentary Conference: Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and Current Security Challenges will take part in debates on information security, energy, defence and talks on growth assurance stable economic and rule of law in the region. The event will be held in Chisinau on 02 March 2018.
According to parliament’s communication and public relations department, issue of propaganda and false info will be addressed in the first part of the Conference. The discussions of panel I – Delivering a response to misinfo will focus on current challenges of misinformation in the region and how to address it. This panel will include Michael Carpenter, the Eurasia Centre, the Europe Future Initiative and the Scowcroft Centre for Strategy and Security, the Atlantic Council and Saema President of Latvia, Inara Murniece. The panel will be moderated by Geysha Gonzalez, Deputy Director of Eurasia Centre at the Atlantic Council.
The participants in Panel II will discuss ensuring stable economic growth and rule of law in the Eastern Partnership. Carmen – Ileana Mihalcescu, Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of MPs of the Romanian Parliament, Anders Aslund, Eurasia Centre, Atlantic Council will discuss with others about current challenges in Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, as well as actions that can be taken by the EU and the USA to support reforms. The moderator of this panel is former US Ambassador to Moldova, Asif Chaudhry.
The energy security will be the subject of discussion of Panel III, which will focus on current developments in transfer of gas demand from Russia and strengthening of energy independence in the region. The panel moderator is Timothy Fairbank, Eurasia Centre, Atlantic Council.
The Defence and Security Research Unit (RUSI) deputy director, Jonathan Eyal, will moderate the panel on common security challenges and, in particular, those generated by unresolved conflicts in Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. The speakers of the panel include Ambassador John Herbst, David Kramer and Ambassador Alexander Vershbow.

The event is organized in partnership with the Atlantic Council at the initiative of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. The representatives of 11 Legislative confirmed to participate in the First Interparliamentary Conference on Security Issues. They also confirmed participation of MEPs, representatives of the US Congress and notable international and regional experts.
