Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/- Representatives of EU states today presented the Joint European Strategy for Development Cooperation of Moldova.

The document states the areas which will receive financial assistance from the EU, such as: economic development, creating jobs, attracting foreign investors, institutional strengthening, fight against corruption, rule of law and public administration reform. At the same time, the European partners aim to improve national legislation, strengthen civil society, promote gender equality, strategic communication, rural development, agritourism and youth employment.

Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Mihalko said that the strategy is meant to support the country in implementing the reforms and serves as a work plan to achieve better results in the future.

“The document reflects once again the EU’s commitments to Moldova. The strategy meets the EU’s priorities and is a very useful tool, which sets out the most important directions in reforming. There are currently 18 major donors who provide assistance to Moldova. Support is provided in exchange for tangible results, so actions will be monitored and evaluated systematically. We will continue to encourage the Moldovan government to benefit from all EU assistance. Support is also evident through the implementation of external assistance projects,” he said.

For his part, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that the directions included in the document are meant to ensure the implementation of national priorities and are combined with the EU-Moldova Association Agreement.

“Our goals coincide. The strategy proves once again the support for implementing the reforms. The document confirms that the reforms are appreciated by our development partners, and there are other challenges we have to face. The strategy is an x-ray of the difficulties our country faces, and the government will identify solutions to these problems alongside European partners. I assure you that Moldova will continue to implement policies and will meet obligations to the EU,” Filip said.

The first Joint European Strategy for Development Cooperation of Moldova was presented in October 2016.
