Head of Moldovan diplomacy chairs Group meeting on reinvigoration of UN intergovernmental mechanisms

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ – Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, presided the first meeting of the Consultative Group on revitalizing intergovernmental mechanisms today, in his capacity as President of the Trade and Development Board of UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in order to maximize the role and impact of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in implementing 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi highlighted that achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals must be the ultimate aim of all trade strategies, to be coordinated with other UN agencies’ policies and initiatives at the international level. In this regard, the expertise of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in areas such as trade, sustainable development, investment, technology, finance and e-commerce should be capitalized by the Member States in adopting policy decisions on development strategies at the national level.
On the sidelines of the UNCTAD meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, Tudor Ulianovschi, had an official meeting with Isabelle Durant, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, during which the main priorities for Republic of Moldova’s cooperation with UNCTAD have been set out. Minister Ulianovschi has expressed gratitude for the technical assistance in the field of trade facilitation, offered by UNCTAD to the Republic of Moldova for the development of the Integrated Customs System ASYCUDA World, which allows for the acceleration and digitalization of import-export procedures and customs controls.
At the same time, on the occasion of the launching of the UNCTAD Annual Report, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has offered an interview to the United Nations Television in his capacity as President of the Trade and Development Board – UNCTAD, discussing the UN reform and the strategy for implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The interview given by the Foreign Minister Tudor Ulianovschi today at the UN will be published in the UNCTAD Annual Report of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
