Moldovan executive improves legal framework for waste management

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ – The Cabinet of Ministers approved today the Regulation on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The project is part of measures to reduce impact of inappropriate waste management on environment and population. At the same time, economic operators are being accountable for the proper management of hazardous waste.

Regarding it, requirements for separate collection, transport and disposal of harmful waste are laid down according to their categories. In order to monitor compliance with Regulation, a national register will be created, containing the list of electrical and electronic equipment manufacturers, quantity of equipment placed on market, as well as info on their collection, reuse and recycling.

The financing of collection, transport, treatment, recovery and elimination of non – polluting WEEE will be provided by the economic operators which place products on market.
