Moldovan foreign minister meets counterparts of Belgium, Monaco

Chisinau, 28 February/MOLDPRES/- Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Didier Reynders, on the sidelines of the session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The two Ministers discussed the priorities of bilateral relations as well as multilateral cooperation within international organizations. Minister Ulianovschi thanked his Belgian counterpart for the support given to the Republic of Moldova in the process of European integration, especially in taking over the acquis communaitaire and international standards in the priority areas for the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the progress made in settling the Transnistrian conflict was addressed, with Belgium showing an increased interest in advancing the resolution of the conflict on the left bank of the Nistru River.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy requested the support of the Kingdom of Belgium for the Republic of Moldova's candidacy for the Human Rights Council for the period 2020-2022, in the context in which the Republic of Moldova's involvement in the issue of human rights at regional and international level was visible during the last years of diplomatic activity in Geneva and New York.

In the same line, the two Ministers have decided to organize the political consultations at the level of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, which will take place in the near future in Chişinău.

On the same day, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Principality of Monaco, Gilles Tonelli.

The interlocutors underlined the existence of upward relations between the two states, which were stimulated by the visit to Chişinău of His Serenity Highness Prince Albert II in May last year. During the discussions, it was reiterated the necessity of capitalizing fully on the commercial and economic potential between the two states, especially the creation of the necessary prerequisites for the attraction of the Monegasque investments in the economy of the Republic of Moldova. Identifying concrete actions and environmental assistance projects with the support of the Monaco Prince Albert Environment Foundation Albert II was another subject of the discussions.

Furthermore, Minister Ulianovschi conveyed condolences to the Monégasque Government, also expressing his regret at the passing away of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Monaco, a month ago, Giuseppe Boglio.
